HOW WILL BE TRANSPORTATION IN THE NEXT YEARS IN MEDELLIN?

In the next years transportation in Medellin will continue grow up, specially the metro system, which has a master plan, projected until 2030, as the metro has as main purpose integrated all Aburra Valley and nerby places, reducing  travel times and offering more comfort   to users.

 

 

On the other hand, Medellin and the metro system has planned the streetcar building, which start the next year.

 

 

 

 

 

 

HOW IS TRANSPORTATION NOWADAYS IN MEDELLIN?

Nowaday Medellín is the city with the best transportation system in Colombia, because it is consist for all metro system and every way of transportation that integrate it.

THE METRO: It is the first massive transportation system that was building in Colombia, the metro cross the metropolitan area from north to south , betwen Bello and Sabaneta towns; also extends from center of the city toward west, and from north to northest of the city. The metro has several lines  of which main objective is integrate all city and make easier mobility in the same.

 

THE METRO CABLE:  Is an air cable system used as massive transportation in medellín city; Medellin was the first city in the world which implemented this system, beside introduce it with a social effect, because that transportation mode helps mainly the disadvantaged sector. The metro cable has 2 lines:

The K line: building in the northest zone of the city, and 

The J line: building in the commune 7 and 13.

 

 

THE METROPLUS: It is composed of a whole of articulated buses which move around the city. This transportation model is support in a brazilian model of buses type BRT. Also is a system integrated to the metro, and one of the main metroplus objectives is integrated to Belen neighborhood with the metro, because this sector did not have any comunication with the metro system. 

 

 

 

HOW WAS TRANSPORTATION YEARS AGO IN MEDELLIN?

The railway was one of the most representative modes of transport in Medellin city. In March 9th of 1914 arrive to the Cisneros station, the first railway of Antioquia. Which besides to be used as a means economic, people used it for their trips and vacations. Trough the railway came to the city many people, as well as many others could get out and meet other places of Colombia. The most famous railway station were: Medellin station and Villa station.

Although the railway was a great achievement for all, in the end of 50s was sold to the nation and integrated national railway network, as it had fallen into disuse, by competition from roads and ground transport.

            

        

                                                                                         

TRANSPORTATION IN MEDELLIN

Medellin has been characterized as having one of the best transportation systems in Colombia and in Latin America. Also transportation is a very important factor indica lot about the economic, political and cultural development of a society, as transports have played a strategic role in terms of the historical evolution of a city. For these reasons I will show as has been the historical development of transport in the city of Medellin and how it will continue to grow in the coming years.

In Medellín the 50's and 60's were essential for the city changed from a big town where everyone knew, to a small city. People began to migrate to Medellín for several reasons, especially by violence and in search of progress, because in the 50's in Medellín, industrial growth was huge mainly in teh textil industry; so the city began to grow up and new neighborhoods appeared, demanding the renovation of all city infrastructure. The first neighborhoods that were created were: Laureles, El poblado, El centro, La playa, and Prado, in which lived the high class people; and Aranjuez, Manrique, Campo valdez and Castilla, where lived employes and the poorer classes. The first churches that were built, were the Parroquia nuestra señora de la candelaria, which was built in 1649; the church of Veracruz, built in 1682 and San José church built in 1903. The families more recognized were the Restrepos, Uribe, Jaramillo, Vélez and Escobar. The end of the twentieth century the Medellín river was channeled. The city had a stadium and an airport whith a weekly flight to Bogotá. In terms of public services, much of the city had electricity, water, sewerage and telephone.
