In Medellín the 50's and 60's were essential for the city changed from a big town where everyone knew, to a small city. People began to migrate to Medellín for several reasons, especially by violence and in search of progress, because in the 50's in Medellín, industrial growth was huge mainly in teh textil industry; so the city began to grow up and new neighborhoods appeared, demanding the renovation of all city infrastructure. The first neighborhoods that were created were: Laureles, El poblado, El centro, La playa, and Prado, in which lived the high class people; and Aranjuez, Manrique, Campo valdez and Castilla, where lived employes and the poorer classes. The first churches that were built, were the Parroquia nuestra señora de la candelaria, which was built in 1649; the church of Veracruz, built in 1682 and San José church built in 1903. The families more recognized were the Restrepos, Uribe, Jaramillo, Vélez and Escobar. The end of the twentieth century the Medellín river was channeled. The city had a stadium and an airport whith a weekly flight to Bogotá. In terms of public services, much of the city had electricity, water, sewerage and telephone.
